James Milner speaks about the reasons he joined City in the latest issue of ManC, the club’s official magazine.

The England midfielder completed his move from Aston Villa back in mid-August and has settled well with the Blues, though he admits the expectations with City are far higher than any other club he’s previously played for.

“City and Villa are both great clubs who are moving in the right direction, but I think City will get there quicker,” he said.

“I think we are in the better position with the owners coming in and investing in the way they have and hopefully we’ll be soon in the Champions League and beyond.”

Despite being only 24, Milner is vastly experienced and has clocked up 329 career appearances at club level and another 60 with England at senior and Under-21 level.

Though the Blues have misfired in front of goal slightly this season, he reveals the spirit in the dressing room is good and the squad are confident they will bring silverware back to the City of Manchester Stadium sooner rather than later.

“We’re all desperate to win trophies – that’s why I came to City,” he said.

We have a great squad and a fantastic fan base and everything is moving forward. It’s all there for us – now it’s up to us to go ahead and do it

“I think that even if we do win a trophy, this year or next year, I think that pressure will still be there because the expectation is there.  And if we do win something, the pressure will be on to win another one and show it wasn’t just a one-off, but that’s the way we want it to be.

“There’s a great bunch of guys at City and we all get on brilliantly with no cliques or anything like that.  We’re nicely placed in the league and just have to keep it going.”
