David Silva is relishing the prospect of his first Manchester derby and says City will go into the game full of confidence following Sunday’s victory over West Brom.

Silva, who was voted the Etihad Player of the Month for October, has been in sparkling form of late and it was his superb passing range that led to both goals at The Hawthorns.

Now the brilliant Spaniard is plotting the downfall of United in a match he never dreamed he would one day play in.

“This is a game we can and we believe we can win,” he said. “I can’t wait to play against United and this is a hugely important game for us because three points would put us on the same points as they are.

“I watched the Manchester derby as a boy and have always enjoyed it since, but I never imagined I’d be actually playing in it – I always thought I’d play my football in Spain so this is very exciting for me and I’m very happy to be part of it.

We are at home and will have our supporters behind us so the advantage is with us. We need to use the atmosphere and take the game to them

Silva has quickly become a huge crowd favourite among the City fans with a series of virtuoso displays that has quickly made him indispensible to Roberto Mancini’s side.

He puts the form down to feeling at home in Manchester and adapting to the Premier League even faster than he’d dared hope.

“Everything changed when I left Spain and everything was different – the weather, the people and the football so I needed to bed in so to speak. I’ve adapted quickly and now I feel at home, very happy and I think it’s now showing through in my football.

“I was slightly tired from the World Cup and physically and mentally drained, too, so the first few weeks were difficult.

“Now things couldn’t be going better and the supporters have been fantastic with me and if I can repay them by helping us beat United and help then help the team to win some trophies, I’ll be very happy.”
