Jerome Boateng insists there will be no hangover after the defeat to Arsenal.

The versatile German defender believes the 3-0 loss doesn’t provide much in the way of concrete evidence when it comes to predicting the final pecking order in the Premier League.

And he is expecting the Blues to bounce back at Wolves tomorrow.

“We didn’t play badly against Arsenal, we created lots of goal scoring chances even when we were down to ten players,” said the former Hamburg man.

“The confidence within the squad has not been weakened by the loss. We are still in the top four and level on points with the second and third placed teams. We are there because we are a good team and deserve to be there.

“The important thing for us now is to put together an unbeaten league run that keeps us at the top. There are two away games coming followed by the derby.

It is a tough sequence but we are ready

Jerome Boateng...

Boateng has featured at both centre half and at full back in recent games and shrugs at the mention of his ability to switch roles so effortlessly.

“I am happy anywhere along the back,” he stressed. “It is not a problem for me. I believe I can fit into several positions.

“There is great competition at the back with at least two players for each role so no one is becoming complacent in any way.

“Until we conceded three goals last weekend we had been very hard to score against and hopefully that will continue.

“I am enjoying my arrival in the Premier League. I have settled well and I have a good relationship with my teammates, the staff and with the supporters. I like the passion of the English game. I think we can have a successful season. We are still improving.”
