Vincent Kompany thinks that the three points gained at Blackpool are exactly what City need to show that they are a serious threat this season.

The win put City back into second place, two points behind leaders Chelsea, and it came against the kind of opposition that have proved to be a stumbling block in the past.

The Seasiders’ win over Liverpool a fortnight ago made the rest of the Barclays Premier League sit up and take notice, with the Belgian happy to give Ian Holloway’s side due respect.

“It was a very difficult game, we did not underestimate them going into it and we expected it to be the way it was. In the end the result was a really good one for us.

“I thought that for a big part of the game Blackpool were the better team, but then again it was not difficult to keep them out at the back. We found it hard to create chances, but there was a moment when we scored that we thought we could get the second and maybe more if it had gone on longer. Fair play to Blackpool, they came back at us and made it difficult for us right to the end.”

As on so many occasions, Carlos Tevez proved to be the talisman for the Blues with his deft touch setting them on their way after a nervy first half.

Vincent continued, “Offensively it was hard for us at times, but you can see that Carlos just needs a moment to make all the difference. But he helps everyone, and although our performance was not bad Blackpool played well. They were at home, so these are three very, very good points away from home.

These are the sorts of places where you have to come and win. United have lost points at home, Arsenal did a while ago so you cannot underestimate any other side in this league and that’s why we have to be really happy with the three points at Blackpool.

“We respected Blackpool before the game and that’s why it’s a good win. The way it is going now, there’s no reason why we should rule ourselves out, and we are two points behind Chelsea, three clear of the rest so we’ll see. The game against Arsenal is definitely a benchmark game. The team, fans and myself, we’re all looking forward to that one!”
