Kolo Toure has told his City team-mates that the Arsenal game is already history - and Saturday's showdown at Wolves is now their most important game of the season.

The former Arsenal defender had to sit and watch his old club put a temporary block on the Blues’ ambitions with the 3-0 victory over City’s ten men that hauled the Gunners level on points in the table.

But the elder Toure, always an upbeat influence around the dressing-room, is determined that the setback will not affect City’s campaign as he battles to overcome a hamstring injury in time for Molineux.

Kolo declared: “We just need to forget about this game. There is a new one that we need to win. The most important thing now is the next game. We had a tough game but now we need to focus on the next one.

“It’s been a difficult week - it’s always hard against a team like Arsenal. They are challenging for the title, and if we want to be on top then we need to win these games. We know that.

“When you play against a team such as Arsenal, Manchester United or Chelsea, you never know what will happen. But the key to the season is to win the games that you expect to win.

Now we have a tough game at Wolves. They have had a difficult week, with a game against Chelsea followed by one at Manchester United.

They did really well even though they lost, and it’s going to be a massive game for us

...Kolo Toure...

Kolo’s partnership with Vincent Kompany at the heart of City’s defence has been on hold since the Ivory Coast star tweaked a hamstring in the 2-1 home victory over Newcastle at the start of the month.

He said: “Of course, we are good enough to beat Arsenal with 11 men, we know that from last season, but it’s always tough to be a man down against a side like that - it would be hard enough against any team.

“When you look at the Arsenal game, even with ten men we were playing very well. It could have been a draw until the second goal changed the game. But they were fighting to do everything they could to stop us.

“It’s always difficult not to be playing, especially against your old team, but you cannot take chances with an injury - it’s a long season and every game is so important. I’m hoping to be fit for the weekend.”
