The World Cup-winning midfielder’s old side Arsenal have had some grand tussles at the DW Stadium, and Vieria knows that Wigan - with a good track record against the Blues at home - are no respecters of reputations.
He admitted: “It will be tough. The game is never easy away from home against a team like Wigan. They didn’t start the season particularly well but we are expecting a difficult game.
“We know just what to expect - they will fight for the result for 90 minutes. But hopefully if we play like we did in the last few games and create the chances, then we will score the goals that will win us the game.
“It’s not that hard switching from Europe to the Premier League. We are used to playing in the Premier League. But what is important is to keep playing the same way.
“We must keep playing well as a team, to create chances and to score goals. I think in the last few games we have been playing well. We didn’t score as many as we deserved to, but hopefully that will change.”
Veteran Vieira, who came off the bench for the last ten minutes in Austria, added: “Of course I am pleased with my own form - but also frustrated at the same time, because like everybody else in the squad I would like to play more games.
“But the team is doing well so I have to be patient. And I have to be ready every time the manager needs me - the season is long, so it’s important that I am always ready.”
