Colin Bell, regarded as the best player City have ever had, is hoping for even better things this season.

‘King Colin’, who has a stand named after him at the Etihad Stadium reckons the sky is the limit for Roberto Mancini’s side in 2011/12 and can’t wait for the campaign to begin on Monday.

“I’m hoping this season will be even better than last season,” he said.

“Last time around we finished third and won the FA Cup and I think the team has really gelled well and though I’m an ex-player, I’m just a fan these days and I’m expecting the world! Anything could happen this season.”

Bell, who won the league, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup with the Blues during his career, says it is vital the team forget last year’s successes and concentrate on the job in hand, saying last season has to be confined to history.

“The players know last season counts for nothing and it all begins again on Monday against Swansea and it’s crucial we hit the ground running,” he said.

We start from zero points and we have to do it all again, but even better if possible

We have a settled squad and have bought wisely over the summer with maybe one or two more additions still to come, so I think we can definitely kick on again and it’s important that we do.

“When you have success you get a taste for it and the supporters’ expectations lift, too and you have to be able to handle that. I look at some of the characters in our squad and I see players who can take us to the next level so everything is looking bright.”
