The Blues defender got hurt in a challenge from Dean Whitehead against Stoke, a tackle that produced some ire on the City man’s personal Twitter account.
But even the prospect of enforced time on the sidelines could not dampen Richards’ joy at a start to a campaign that has put the Blues in the vanguard of English football.
“I have been here a long time and I have been waiting and hoping for this kind of success,” he declared.
“It has been an amazing couple of seasons with great players arriving at regular intervals and the whole club – not just the playing side – on the up.
“I feel like I am playing as well as I have ever done and enjoying my football as much as I ever have. Who wouldn’t enjoy playing alongside some of the players in our dressing room?
“David Silva, Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero, and Mario Balotelli have all come in and raised the bar again. They have such great instinct and the understanding within the squad is growing all the time. We all know each other well and I think that shows in our build up play when we are attacking.
I love having the freedom to join in and the rest of the lads are great at making me look good

Richards galloped past the 200 game mark for City earlier in the season and is now determined to crash on and set more milestones.
“I have always loved being part of this club but to have some success and see the joy it brings to the fans is something else,” he went on.
“The FA Cup win was emotional and now we have put ourselves in a position to top that this season in the Premier League.
“But we are not getting carried away. We are not even at the half way stage yet. What we have done is signalled our intent and made the title race very interesting.
“We know we have to keep improving and keep working hard – the manager makes sure of that – and if we do that then we have every chance of staying at the top.
“My calf was sore after the Stoke game but I want to be back as soon as possible no one wants to miss a minute of this season. I’d like to wish all City fans Merry Christmas.”
