Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Aris Thessaloniki is the second in a run of five consecutive home games for City, and a modern first for the club.

And while all these fixtures, in just under a fortnight, might have the hard-working ground staff tearing their hair out, it got us reaching for the record books.

There is a kind of precedent, but you have to go way back to 1902/03 to find it. That City vintage went on to win the Division Two title that season, helped by five league games in a row at home. Not only did they win all of them, but they scored 30 goals in a sequence that culminated with a 9-0 thrashing of Gainsborough Trinity. In amongst that lot, the great Billy Meredith was on target on nine occasions.

Our 5-0 victory over Notts County was not a bad way to start this home run. It’s worth remembering that considering criticism of City’s ‘conservative’ approach this season, our last four home games, all won, have seen the Blues hit the net 16 times.
