Wing wizard Adam Johnson is keen to bring the good times back to City after taking advice from one of his illustrious predecessors.

Fan favourite and now Club Ambassador Mike Summerbee has leant his advice to the England international, who was on the score sheet for the sixth time this season against Leicester on Tuesday.

“Mike’s helped me a lot,” says the 23-year-old, “and I know he did with Craig Bellamy as well, just little pointers on how to be a winger. It’s great to have that kind of help from older players.

“Buzzer gets involved with the lads and reminds us all about the good times. The lads know what it means. I’ve met some of the other older players and we want to bring back those days if we can.

“The older generation and the fans want that as well.

Everyone feels the same – it’s time we pushed on as a club and did something.

Adam Johnson has not been a regular starter with manager Roberto Mancini shuffling his pack for the demands of different games. However he has been named in the starting eleven for five out of the last six games, and he thinks that heeding advice from the boss is showing out on the pitch.

He adds, “I think I have taken on board what the manager said. They were just little pointers, things that have helped my game, so I’ve improved.

“The manager will tell you better if I have or not, but I’ve worked on my game and I’ve kept my place in the team.

“I was out of the team a little bit earlier in the season, but I think it was to do with the size of the squad - there is a lot of competition for places. I’m glad to be back in the team and I just hope I can get a few more goals and a few more assists as well.”
