Roberto Mancini will continue to invest in youth at City and believes loaning youngsters out to gain further experience is the next logical step for a number of promising players at the club.

Greg Cunningham is the perfect example of how a loan spell can help develop a player’s career, with the Republic of Ireland defender perhaps Leicester’s best player over the past few months, though he has recently returned to the Blues after breaking his leg.

Now Ben Mee has followed in Greg’s footsteps by joining the Foxes and Mancini expects similar results from the 21-year-old centre-back.

“Sven knows Ben very well and I think he will improve a great deal at Leicester,” he said.

Sven will help make him a better player and to be playing regular football in the Championship is just what he needs at this moment in his career

“Vladimir Weiss is another example of a young player who needed to continue to gain more experience in a tough environment.

“Last season he had a spell in the Premier League with Bolton and then he played in the World Cup. It was important he continued to play first-team football so this season he joined Rangers and he is doing very well which is good for him and good for us.

“We keep a close eye on all our young players out on loan and have regular reports on their progress. John Guidetti has just returned from a month with Burnley and we will continue to loan out our younger players if we feel it will benefit them.”
