Brian Kidd says that any additions to the striker's department at City in the transfer window will have no effect on Captain Fantastic Carlos Tevez's remarkable season.

Argentina hit man Tevez has shouldered the burden up front for the Blues, missing only a handful of games and scoring 12 goals as Roberto Mancini’s title-chasers have stormed into second place in the Premier League.

Mancini has found it difficult to rest Tevez amid concerns about burn-out later in the campaign, but his right-hand man Kidd insists it will be business as usual for the skipper even if other players were added to ease his load.

Tevez missed from the spot in the last home game against Blackpool - his first penalty failure since joining City - but played a magnificent role as lone forager in Wednesday’s goalless draw at The Emirates.

Kidd said: “I think Carlos just relishes the hard work. You’ve only got to look at his performance at Arsenal the other night - hard work certainly doesn’t faze him. He’s always prepared to pick up the baton.

Carlos has been unbelievable this season. He manages himself in training as well, then when the bell rings he steps up to the plate. He’s just like a street footballer ... he’s like he is simply because he loves the game.

...Kidd on Carlos

“You could see him just playing football in the street. He reminds me of how it was years ago, he’s a throwback!

“I can’t see Carlos getting many days off for the second half of the season, but adding a different type of player to the squad naturally gives you another option, and rest assured the boss will be working on that.

“It’s always good to be able to add quality in the areas where you think you can improve the squad, and the boss has looked at the strengths and weaknesses and decided which way he needs to go.”

With Mario Balotelli bedded in and Jo getting games on the left, Kidd added: “Most successful teams have four main strikers - not every manager sees it in the same way, but four decent strikers means that you can rotate.”
