The Blues fell behind after just 11 minutes and looked second-best for long stretches until Kolo Toure’s equaliser just before half-time.
Mick McCarthy’s spirited side had belied their lowly position in the table and shook City by clawing back a couple of goals after the Blues looked to have put the game beyond the visitors.
“We knew Wolves wouldn’t be an easy game because they play well away – we saw them win at Liverpool and it is always hard (against them),” says the popular Dutchman.
They proved that in the first half, but we were a little better at the start of the second half, before we made it very difficult by letting in those two goals.
“It went backwards and forwards, that game. We started slowly and let Wolves go 1-0 up, and had to chase the goal again.
“Luckily we got the goal that made it 1-1 before the second half, and after that it was up and down.
“We got it to 4-1 and then unnecessarily let in two goals which made for a difficult ten minutes at the end.”
City’s comeback was inspired by a man-of-the-match display from Carlos Tevez, and de Jong reckons that his skipper was spurred on by the presence of his two children in the stands.
“It gives you a boost to have your kids around you,” adds Nigel. “I’m a parent as well so I know how it is for Carlos, and you could see that in him.
“I hope the kids stay around until the end of the season so we can enjoy a few more goals from him!”
