Abdi Ibrahim has joined Dutch Eredivisie side Nijmegen on a season-long loan deal.

The Norwegian under-21 midfielder joins a team that only narrowly missed out on a Europa League spot last season and finished just a point behind 14 times league champions Feyenoord.

A member of the 2008 FA Youth Cup winning side, Ibrahim made his senior debut against Scunthorpe in January 2010 and has since featured twice for the Blues’ first team.

The Somali-born Academy graduate is no stranger to moving out on loan, having spent time at Scunthorpe United last season and can look forward to the promise of more first team opportunities during his time in the Netherlands.

Though City’s Elite Development Squad was due to face Nijmegen in a friendly this Friday, the fixture has now been postponed until October.

We wish Abdi the best of luck during his time at Nijmegen.
