The goalkeeper joined City from Newcastle United in February 2009 and immediately established himself as first-choice for manager Mark Hughes with some outstanding performances, including a match-winning display in a penalty shoot-out against Aalborg.
He went on to make 69 appearances for the Blues, but he spent most of last season understudying Joe Hart after Roberto Mancini decided to opt for the England stopper as his number one.
Nevertheless Shay kept himself in tip-top shape after recovering from the dislocated shoulder that ended his 2009/10 campaign, and he played several games in the Carling Cup and Europa League.
Popular with fans, team mates and staff at the club alike, Shay leaves City with our best wishes.
