As if Edin Dzeko wasn’t idolised enough! The City striker has a legion of admirers back in his homeland and he showed why yesterday, heading a late winner for Bosnia-Herzegovina in their 2-1 win over Romania.

The goal keeps the Bosnians in touch with group leaders France and was just the boost Dzeko needed ahead of City’s vital Premier League clash with Sunderland next Sunday.

There were plenty of City connections in the Wales v England clash which saw Fabio Capello’s side triumph 2-0 at the Millennium Stadium. Joe Hart claimed yet another clean sheet following a faultless display and James Milner played his part as a 70th-minute substitute.

There was no place in the matchday squad for Gareth Barry, though Joleon Lescott was an unused sub.  Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips weren’t in the squad on this occasion, though Craig Bellamy was Wales’ best player and former City Academy graduates Ched Evans and Wayne Hennessey also played.

Continuing the international round-up, Jerome Boateng was an unused substitute in Germany’s 4-0 victory over Kazakhstan, but Vladimir Weiss missed Slovakia’s 1-0 win over Andorra through injury.
