Pablo Zabaleta is unlikely to feature against Sunderland after remaining in Argentina to stay by his father's bedside.

The popular defender had intended to rejoin his team-mates this week and challenge for a starting place against Steve Bruce’s side on Sunday, but he feels he should stay with his father who was involved in a serious car crash earlier this month and remains very poorly.

Zaba has missed the games against Reading, Dynamo Kyiv and Chelsea and will assess the situation on a daily basis and stay with his family and his baby brother, for the time being.

Pablo has played in 37 of City’s 46 games in all competitions and has become an integral member of Roberto Mancini’s squad. He clocked up his 100th City appearance earlier in the season and has made 114 appearances in total since joining from Espanyol in 2008.

Pablo has expressed his thanks to all the messages of support he’s had from City fans at what has been a very difficult time for his family and he hopes to be back in Manchester soon.
