Silva followed his cracker in the FA Cup victory over Aston Villa with the first-half winner against Wigan on a weekend when the Blues strengthened their bid for Champions League next season.
He is hardly likely to become a close challenger to leading scorer Tevez’s 21-goal haul, but World Cup winner David says he owes his adjustment to Premier League demands to City’s Captain Fantastic.
He said: “You have to realise Carlos is a fantastic player first and foremost and it’s easy to slot in with him, and create an understanding with him.
“I am happy to have done my little bit to help him be so high in the goalscoring charts, and if I can help him get a few more that’s great, so he can be up there with the leading scorers.”
While he scored one of the Blues’ goals of the season at Blackpool in October, Silva has hardly been prolific since his summer move from Valencia - not that the situation bothers him unduly.
He said: “It’s not been something on my mind unduly. I see my main role as not just scoring goals but helping the side by playing well and creating chances.
I think I have been managing that, but if you can score that’s great, especially if it happens to be the goal that wins the game
On Saturday it was, though he needed help from Ali Al Habsi - the usually-reliable Wigan and Oman goalkeeper allowed Silva’s shot through his legs for the game’s only goal.
He admitted: “I had a bit of luck. It might have had a slight deflection – I couldn’t see it as it was going towards the keeper because the defender was quite close to me and blocked my view.
“Sometimes they hit the post, go wide, or the keeper saves them, so it was nice to get that bit of luck. I can’t remember a luckier goal, but I am sure I must have scored one!”
