Wesley Sneijder is looking forward to getting close up and personal with Dutch teammate Nigel de Jong in Ireland this summer.

Inter Milan star Sneijder has expressed excitement about playing in the Dublin Super Cup, the new pre-season tournament that will see him and his teammates compete against City, Celtic and a side consisting of the best players from Ireland’s domestic league.

The Blues face Inter in the final game of the tournament on Sunday 31 July.

“I think to have an opportunity to play against the big teams that are going to be there is always nice and of course a tournament is always nice to win. It’s always good to win prizes like we did last year. We want to win it,” said Sneijder whose Inter side are through to last eight of the Champions League and in second place in Serie A.

“I know the fans in Ireland love their football. I am looking forward to playing there because the country is so passionate about football.

“It is always important to start directly against big teams in the summer. It is better for everybody, to improve yourself. It will be hard. but it will be great to play against big teams like City and Celtic especially in pre-season. I am sure Nigel will be looking forward to it too.”
