The 25-year-old was recently named in the PFA’s Team of the Season by his fellow professionals after another campaign of immaculate displays at the heart of the City defence.
That’s not a bad return for a player who initially featured mainly in midfield following his arrival from Hamburg, before gradually assuming becoming a rock in defence.
But he knows the Blues have unfinished business this season and he isn’t about to start basking in his own glow with so many vital games still to play
“It felt great to the PFA vote, and it’s a great honour because it is chosen by my fellow players,” he said. “I was honoured, but I have said it before - I’m only worried about one thing, and that is winning silverware for Manchester City.
“Whether it’s the FA Cup, the league or at some stage a trophy in Europe, I want to win things with City. That’s more important for me than any individual trophy.”
Stopping goals rather than scoring them is Vincent’s number one priority, and indeed he has not found the net for the Blues since the 6-1 demolition of Burnley just over a year ago.
Even Nigel de Jong has hit the target since, and his former team mate at Hamburg is piling the pressure on the Dutchman to come up with a few more.
“I leave the goals to my team mates, I have no problem with that!” he smiled.
“I was pleased that Nigel scored because he has really been looking for that goal for such a long time. I know he can score, because I played with him at Hamburg and he managed the odd one there! Who knows, maybe we’ll see five or 10 goals a season from Nige from now on!
“But so long as we end the season on a high as a team, I’m happy to take a back seat when it comes to scoring goals.”
