City defender Chris Chantler has joined Carlisle United on an emergency loan until 2 January.

The 20-year-old has moved to Greg Abbott’s side, who are currently mid-table in the NPower League One table. The Cumbrians take on Colchester at Brunton Park this weekend.

The Stockport-born defender has been at City for more than 11 years now, having started his career at one of the late City striker Neil Young’s Soccer Schools.

After becoming a regular for the Under-18 side and moving into the Elite Development Squad at Carrington, Chantler made his bow under Roberto Mancini at the Stadio Olimpico against Juve in a Europa League group tie on 16 December 2010, his 20th birthday.

He’s since been a virtual ever-present for the EDS and was included by City on the Club’s ‘B’ list of youth players for the Champions League.
