Roberto Mancini has his eyes on a busy couple of months with the prospect of another visit to Wembley after his City side battled through to the Carling Cup semi-finals.

Sergio Aguero’s 83rd minute strike gave the Blues a hard-fought win in front of over 5000 grateful fans, who had travelled to north London on a blustery Tuesday night.

The Manager shuffled his pack, making 10 changes to the team that had started at Anfield just two days earlier.

“These games are important because all these players could play in our next game against Norwich, they needed to play as well,” he declared.

“In December and January we will play every three days, and it will be tough. It’s a good thing, we have a chance to win trophies, but it will be hard.

“Both teams wanted to win this game, we both had chances, it was a good game. If you get to a semi-final, any team will be difficult so that will be a hard game whoever we get.”

Adam Johnson, mostly on the sidelines in the last two games, made the most of his chance and was instrumental in setting up the winning goal. He and his team mates are looking to compete for places as the games begin to come thick and fast.

“For me and the lads that play in this competition this gives us a chance to push to play in the team week-in, week-out. If we can come away with another trophy that would be a massive thing for the club. Every competition we are in, we want to win it.”
