City’s magical midfielder, fresh from scoring for Spain last Tuesday, believes the Magpies will be tough opposition, but says the Blues will focus on their own game rather than worry what the visitors’ game plan will be.
“It will be a difficult game,” he said. “We are at home and hopefully we’ll play as well as we have done in our previous home games and will get the three points.”
Responding to Alan Pardew’s promise that Newcastle would cone and “have a go”, Silva added: “We’ll play our way and they will play theirs - we hope that our way is better and we win!”
With Silva at the heart of City’s breathtaking start to the season, he admits he is finding it easy to adapt his club style to that of his country, who just happen to be the world champions.
“Of course, for me it’s the same,” he said. “I always play the same way and try my hardest for both City and Spain and so far things are going well so I hope it carries on like this until the end of the league.
“I am getting better at scoring goals but I would like be better at heading and defending if possible.
“I don’t know if this is being the best I have ever played in my career, but it is very close. I feel calm, happy and motivated and I think that is showing in my football.
I am happy because things are going very well and I feel very comfortable in the team and in Manchester
...David Silva.
Silva also revealed one of the secrets behind City’s incredible start to the 2011/12 campaign.
The fluid, attacking football the Blues have played so far is down to the freedom the attacking midfielders and forwards have been given, with rigid formations and positional discipline secondary -when the team is on the attack.
“On the pitch there are no fixed positions,” he revealed. “We can move in attack freely, following the coach’s instructions. We train this way and all practice being playmakers and creating chances.
“We work hard and have a licence to be creative in everything we do. As for my own role, I have to see where other players are and I try to fill the free space – it is the same for the others and so far, it has proved to be very effective.”
