The Dutch central defender was just 16 years and 294 days old when he made his bow in the Carling Cup tie at the Etihad Stadium.
Only Englishman Glyn Pardoe was younger when he made his debut aged 15 years and 314 days old.
Rekik progressed through the youth system at Feyenoord and was an integral part of the Holland side that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championships last May, scoring the opening goal of their campaign with a header against Germany.
Rekik also played in the Under-17 World Cup in Mexico, skippering his country in their final group game and is tipped as a star of the future.
He was initially unaware at the new record he’d set but was delighted to discover he’d etched his name in the record books.
“I’m really happy,” he said. “Obviously it is wonderful to have played so early in my career and to have become City’s youngest overseas player is quite an honour.
“Somebody told me I might have even been the youngest, which would have been even better still but I’m happy that I’ve set an overseas record.
I might have only been on for 15 minutes or so, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to my next chance.
“I just have to work hard and prove myself but so far, everything is going really well and the good thing is, everyone within the NextGen squad or at the Academy knows that the manager will give you an opportunity if he thinks you are ready.”
