Pablo Zabaleta is convinced that Sergio Aguero should be rewarded for his superb debut season with City.

Far from struggling to adapt as some players from overseas can do, the striker has scored 21 goals in the Premier League since his arrival from Atletico Madrid last summer.

The 23-year-old has not only been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, but for the Young Player award as well.

City team mate and fellow countryman Zabaleta is not at all surprised at how well Aguero has performed, and he has his fingers crossed for the results of the players poll, which will be announced on Sunday.

“I’ve known Sergio for a long time, I knew before he came here that was a fantastic player so I’m not surprised how well he has done,” Pablo declares.

“He has adapted really into the team, he’s a great person to have here.

He’s a fantastic team-mate, and off the field he’s so funny as well - he’s an important part of the group.

“La Liga is completely different to the Premier League, that’s why sometimes players who move to England have some problems trying to adapt to this league at the beginning. But Sergio has been one of our key players all season, and I hope he wins one of these awards. As an Argentinean too, I wish him the best and I think he really has a chance.”

The awards will be announced after City take on Wolves at Molineux, and while Terry Connor’s side may be struggling to avoid relegation, Pablo is adamant that City will have to be on their guard as they chase the Premier League title.

“If we go there thinking we’ll win easily, that’s a mistake so we have to try to play as a team again and get the three points.

“You never know what can happen. Look at how Wigan have played, four games ago they had Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Arsenal to play, but they have only lost to Chelsea. That’s why it is so important for us to be focused on our game, we cannot drop any points because if we are to win the league we have to win all our games.”
