City have been paired with Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage draw.

The Blues will also face Dutch giants Ajax and Borussia Dortmund in Group D in their bid to make the Round of 16 – something Roberto Mancini’s side narrowly failed to last season.

Reaction has been flooding in from City players and Real Madrid’s’ Cristiano Ronaldo has also a tweeted his thoughts.

City skipper Vincent Kompany (@VincentKompany) said: “Looks like we’re not going to get any easy games again this year but it is certainly a good group for the fans. I’m looking forward already!”

Team-mate Joleon Lescott (@JoleonLescott) added: ”Group D highlights the fact why it’s called Champions League. #TitleWinnersOnly.”

Ronaldo believes his club couldn’t have faced tougher opposition in Group D. He said: “‘In my opinion, it is the most difficult group and the most competitive. But we are champions of Spain. We are ready.”

Patrick Vieira believes City can progress, despite the difficulty of the group. “It is a very difficult draw but it should be fascinating as well. It is a really open group with four domestic champions. I think we’ll do much better than last year and playing Real Madrid twice will be a great occasion for the Club.”

The window for Gold and Platinum members to join all three of the City cup schemes closes at 5pm today (Friday, 31 August). Further information is available here or call 0115 905 1201 now.
