The Premier League’s dubious goal panel may have to answer to the Bosnian if they do try and take away City’s fourth goal of the day.
The ball came back off the post after Dzeko’s ferocious drive, hitting Norwich City keeper Mark Bunn on the back before rolling into the net – it was the type of goal that is usually ungratefully received by goalkeepers as an own goal but the striker certainly didn’t see it that way.
“Of course I will claim it – it’s my goal and it has to be like that,” stressed Dzeko before admitting that he didn’t think he would be in the starting line up at Carrow Road.
“To be fair, I didn’t expect to play because it looked in training that I wouldn’t. I was surprised before the game when the manager gave the team,” he revealed.
City were able to display flowing, fluid football in the first 25 minutes at Carrow Road and played with a freedom sorely missing from the Boxing Day defeat to Sunderland.
“Maybe it’s important to score the first chance, it’s different when you’re winning 1-0 – maybe it’s easier when you’re a goal ahead and then we got the second soon after,” Dzeko said.
“We did it once before against West Brom, we played with ten men for 50 or 60 minutes - we did well and we did it again today – it was hard but we worked hard.
“There’s still a lot of games to play (in the title race), we lost the last game against Sunderland – we were unlucky, we couldn’t find the goal but today we fought from the first to the 90th minute.
“Everyone wants to play and I was back today and I gave the maximum.”
