The Blues hoped to break from their Premier League title quest on Wednesday to raise money for the Genoa flood victims but those plans have now been put on hold due to the freezing temperatures in Italy, snow warnings for the Genoa area and travel uncertainty.
It is still hoped that the Premier League leaders will take on a team named ‘Uniti Per Genoa’ - made up of players from both sides from the city, Genoa CFC and U.C Sampdoria - at a future date but this will depend on the English side’s fixture list.
Six people including two children died in the flash floods that devastated the northern Italian city last November.
The game would signal an emotional return to Genoa for the manager and three of his staff.
Between them Mancini, David Platt, Attilio Lombardo, and Fausto Salsano played more than 850 games for Sampdoria and scored 198 goals. Platt also managed Sampdoria and Lombardo was the youth team boss.
