The Blues will break from their Premier League title quest to raise money for the Genoa flood victims. They will take on a team named ‘Uniti Per Genoa’ which will be made up of players from both sides from the city, Genoa CFC and U.C Sampdoria.
Six people including two children died in the flash floods that devastated the northern Italian city last November.
Mancini’s men will play the game on 8 February and it will be an emotional return to Genoa for the manager and three of his staff.
Between them Mancini, David Platt, Attilio Lombardo, and Fausto Salsano played more than 850 games for Sampdoria and scored 198 goals. Platt also managed Sampdoria and Lombardo was the youth team boss.
Mancini is likely to take a large squad to Genoa made up of first team and EDS players, give everyone a chance to take part in what will essentially be a friendly game. The players will also train in Italy before returning to England to prepare for their game at Aston Villa on Sunday 12th February.
Ticket details for City fans wishing to travel to Genoa will be announced shortly.
