Welcome to the first of my daily diaries for the Austrian leg of our training camp. I'll try and let you know what's happening from a player's point of view, so here goes...

Well, that’s the first fitness session under our belts and it feels good to be back with the team. I have enjoyed the summer break and spending quality time with my family.

I managed to relax and recharge my batteries and now I’m ready for football again.

Of course, the hard work really begins from today as we build up to the first our pre-season games. We concentrate initially on core strength and steadily building our fitness and stamina up so that means a lot of work in the gym.

We have two sessions per day, one in the morning and one in the evening with each one lasting about an hour. In between, we have lunch and a rest. Seefeld is a very beautiful town and it’s quite different from the base we had in Los Angeles last year.

It is quite cool and cloudy today, but it’s not that surprising considering our training camp is surrounded by mountains.

Last night there was quite a spectacular electrical storm and torrential rain for an hour or so – amazing to watch but I was glad to be indoors

Out hotel is very nice and the local people have made us feel very welcome since we arrived so everything has started as well as we could have hoped.

We ended last season on such a high that there is a real spring in everyone’s step and it’s been great to catch up with the guys again – I see them more than my family so I think we all appreciate a few weeks apart.

I was disappointed to miss the victory parade around Manchester and the final hour of our win over QPR due to injury back in May – I hope I have the chance to join in on many more moments like this in the future but sometimes you have to accept there is nothing you can do.

Right now we need to focus again and build towards match fitness. We have a very strong squad and even though a few of the lads are away at the moment following Euro 2012, we’ll soon be back together and be ready to defend our title.

See you tomorrow…

Yaya.
