City will take on FA Cup winners Chelsea at Villa Park on August 12 in the traditional curtain-raiser for the new season. The game will kick off at 1.30pm with ticket prices £45, £35, £25 and £20.
Allocation and purchase information will be announced shortly.
Wembley will not host the game due to the Olympic soccer final which takes place the night before.
The Manchester Blues have form when it comes to the Shield at the Midlands venue.
City took the Charity Shield, as it was then called, back up the M6 to Maine Road in 1972 after beating Aston Villa on their home ground thanks to a solitary penalty from Francis Lee.
Derby County and Leeds United, as league champions and FA Cup holders respectively, declined to contest the Charity Shield that year, but in 2012 Premier League winners City will face a Chelsea side who can boast the Champions League trophy in their locker in addition to the FA Cup.
