Gow played for City from 1980 to 1982, clocking up 36 appearances and scoring seven goals. He was a huge crowd favourite during his brief time at Maine Road and is fondly remembered by those who saw him in action.
Signed by John Bond along with fellow Scots Tommy Hutchison and Bobby McDonald, the tough-tackling midfielder also featured in both the 1981 FA Cup Final and the subsequent replay five days later.
He was a cult figure among City fans before a knee injury took its toll and he eventually signed for Rotherham.
Gow made 445 appearances for Bristol City between 1969 and 1981 and for Robins’ fans, this benefit match has been a long time coming.
The match will be played at Ashton Gate against a Bristol City XI and Blues’ crowd idol Shaun Goater will play one half for each team.
The City Legends XI line-up will include Joe Corrigan, Andy Dibble, Eric Nixon, Peter Beagrie, Paul Dickov, Gary Bennett, Dave Bennett, Asa Hartford, Kevin Horlock, Peter Barnes, Jeff Whitley and Fitzroy Simpson with other names likely to be confirmed shortly.
Tickets for the game are now on sale priced £8 for adults and £4 for concessions.
