Redmond captained the Blues for several years during his eight-year stint in the first team which saw him make 287 appearances between 1984 and 1992.
A graduate of the City youth system at Platt Lane, Redmond was part of a golden generation of talented youngsters who came through during the mid-eighties and included, among others, Paul Lake, David White and Ian Brightwell.
A boyhood Liverpool fan, he retains great affection for the Blues and was glued to the TV on the final Sunday of the season, watching with fascination as events unfurled at the Etihad Stadium and Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
“It was an unbelievable day, one I’ll never forget,” said Redmond who was taking part in a CITC golf day at Mere .

“When Sergio Aguero scored in the last minute, myself and my lad went wild – and he’s a Liverpool fan! A guy over the road who supports Everton had his window open and he was going ballistic, too.
“Liverpool fans have never had a problem with City so I think we were all willing the Blues to win the title. Obviously our rivalry with United comes into play a little!”
Redmond, who plied his trade as centre-back during his days at Maine Road, has been hugely impressed by the current centre-halves Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott and says City should ensure they remain the rock of the back four.
“In my opinion, Lescott has come on leaps and bounds,” said Redmond. “I wasn’t a fan of his at Everton but now he’s really got his act together and the balance with Kompany is perfect.
“The communication is spot-on and when one makes a great tackle the other one high-fives them so to have that kind camaraderie and understanding is special.
“I had a similar partnership with Colin Hendry at City and it can be worth its weight in gold for any team. Kompany is a fantastic defender and great leader, too so defensively, I wouldn’t change a thing.
“City have nothing to fear now and they can go and continue to win trophies for many years to come. I’d like to think Liverpool could put in a challenge in a few years’ time, but I couldn’t be happier for my old club who I still wish nothing but the best for.”
