Sergio Aguero became City’s first 30-goal striker for a decade when he netted the dramatic last gasp winner against QPR on the final day.
Shaun Goater was the last City striker to net 30 goals or more in a season back in the goal-laden 2001/02 campaign, bagging 32 in something of a feeding frenzy.
Before The Goat, it was Franny Lee in 1971/72 with 13 of them coming from the penalty spot.
Going further back, Sergio’s next objective should be to match Frank Roberts in the twenties. Roberts is the only City player to have scored 30 or more goals in consecutive campaigns, a feat he achieved across the 1924/25 and 1925/26 seasons.
The all-time scoring record for a single league campaign is held by Tommy Johnson, who scored 38 times in 1928/29. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to inspire the Blues to silverware as they finished 8th and went out in the third round of the FA Cup.
So, as we all mourn the passing of another domestic season and get ready for Euro 2012, it’s time to prepare your Argentine popcorn equivalent and relive all of Sergio’s goals, lovingly compiled as a playlist for you by those wonderful chaps over at City TV.
