There is nothing like a goal to restore a striker’s confidence and Carlos Tevez is brimming with that important commodity as he heads for Upton Park.

The City hit man spent just one season at West Ham, but was instrumental in ensuring the club stayed in the Premier League at the end of the 2006-7 season and he has fond recollections of being an Eastender!

“I have very, very good memories because it was my first club in Europe,” smiled Tevez.

“The truth is that I’m very happy to be returning to the club that you could say was my ‘birthplace.’

“I feel very happy in general.”

The Argentine Ace got his name back on the score sheet in spectacular fashion against Swansea on Saturday and in doing so secured three valuable points for the Blues.

“It’s been four or five games since I scored and scoring always gives you a lot of confidence,” he admitted.

I’m very happy to have scored again and grab a victory for the team. After disappointment at Ajax, it was nice for the team to get a good boost with a win.

...Carlos Tevez...

“Having played very badly at Ajax we had to wake up, play better and win which was the most important thing.”

Roberto Mancini’s men came in for some criticism after their 3-1 loss in Amsterdam and have collected just one point so far in this Champions League campaign but the win over Swansea means the champions sit level on points with Manchester United in the Premier League, just one point behind leaders Chelsea.

“I think we are trying to get over the bad moment lived in Ajax and the victory on Saturday gives us a bit more breathing space,” Tevez concluded.

“Now we have quite a few difficult back to back games and we need to have our heads together for these.”
