Several City players were in FA Cup action over the weekend and there were mixed fortunes in store for the loan stars.

Reece Wabara helped Oldham Athletic into the second round of the FA Cup as the Latics successfully negotiated a potential banana skin with a 2-0 win over Kidderminster, however, he could do nothing to prevent a 2-1 home defeat to Bury in Tuesday night’s local derby.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Helan’s loan spell at Shrewsbury Town has got off to a difficult start, after the Shrews were dumped out of the FA Cup by Hereford United, and then narrowly beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth in League One in games where the Frenchman played the full 90 minutes.

Wayne Bridge’s Brighton and Hove Albion recovered from their recent sticky patch by claiming four points from games against Leeds United and Peterborough.

The left-back has continued to hold down a place for Gus Poyet’s side and played all 180 minutes of the two games as the Seagulls stay in contention for promotion to the Premier League.

An FA Cup replay will be required to separate Emyr Huws’ Northampton Town and Bradford City after the sides drew 1-1 on Saturday and the scoreline was the same against York City on Tuesday night as the Welshman continues to feature heavily for the Cobblers.

There was disappointment in store for another City man last Thursday when Dedryck Boyata received a red card in the 25th minute of FC Twente’s 2-1 home defeat to Den Bosch. Manager Steve McLaren is under investigation for his conduct after the Belgian defender received his marching orders.

It was better news for Omar Elabdellaoui who played his first 90 minutes for Feyenoord in a 4-0 away cup win over Xerxesdzb.

Defender Ryan McGivern continues to win rave reviews for his performances north of the border for Hibernian, as they continued their impressive campaign with a 2-1 win over St Mirren.

Hibs currently lie joint top of the table with Celtic in a rare competitive Scottish Premier League.

Meanwhile, Paraguayan hitman Roque Santa Cruz was a second half substitute in Malaga’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Milan and in their 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.

Santa Cruz didn’t face off against Mohammed Abu who was absent from Rayo’s squad for the encounter.
