City’s top-scorer describes the match against the Dutch champions as ‘crucial’ if the Blues are to qualify from Group D.

Edin Dzeko took his season goal tally to six after his inspired two-goal 11 minute cameo against West Brom on Saturday and he revealed that he’s ready to give everything to kick-start City’s UEFA Champions League campaign in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

“It is difficult, I think we didn’t start very well again this year as we only have one point and I think this game will be crucial,” said Edin.

“If we win then we play against them again at home and maybe if we get six points it will be different – much better for us.”

City were perhaps fortunate to escape their last match in the competition against Borussia Dortmund with a point but the Bosnian hitman believes that anything less than a win in Wednesday’s match could be terminal for the Blues’ continental hopes.

“I think it’s an important game, we have to win if we still want to be in the game,” said Dzeko.

Ajax are currently five points behind Eredivisie leaders FC Twente in fourth place and have been beaten by Dortmund and Real Madrid in their opening two Champions League matches.

“We need three points - we will do everything.”

The match will be the first competitive meeting between City and Ajax and will have a huge bearing on whether Roberto Mancini’s men continue their Champions League quest after Christmas for the first time.
