On an unspectacular week for the City stars out on loan, Emyr Huws, Reece Wabara and Jeremy Helan perhaps enjoyed their weekend more than most.

Helan made his debut for League 1 Shrewbury Town in a 2-2 draw with Colchester United and had an impressive game and helped the Shrews recover from 2-0 down to earn a vital point.

In the same division, Reece Wabara was again looking in great form as Oldham Athletic held high-flying Crawley Town to a 1-1 draw, despite playing with ten men for 70 minutes.

Academy graduate Huws played 81 minutes of Northampton Town’s 2-0 win over in-form Port Vale and help the Cobblers climb to 14th in League 2.

Moving back up to the Championship, Wayne Bridge’s Brighton drew 1-1 with Blackpool, while Abdul Razak’s spell at Charlton ended as an unused sub in the 1-1 draw at Wolves.

In Scotland, Hibs recovered from their surprise defeat to Ross County last week to trounce Motherwell 4-0 away from home - Ryan McGivern played the full 90 minutes as Hibs moved back up to second in the SPL.

In Europe, Roque Santa Cruz couldn’t find a way past struggling Espanyol’s defence as Malaga were held to a 0-0 draw - they are now clinging to third with Real Madrid breathing down their necks in fourth.

Staying in La Liga, Mohammed Abu played no part in Rayo Vallecano’s 5-0 home defeat to Barcelona.

In Holland,  Dedryck Boyata came on as a 65th-minute sub for FC Twente as they won 1-0 at RKC to maintain their title challenge, but Omar Elabdellaoui wasn’t involved in Feyenoord’s 2-2 draw with Ajax.

Last but not least, Abdi Ibrahim played 61 minutes of Stromgodset’s 3-2 win over Haugesund.
