The 34-year-old’s wealth of experience will no doubt be of great help to Joe Hart in particular, but Wright says he is also here to improve his own game.
“There needs to be competition all the time. Obviously Joe’s a fantastic goalkeeper and if I can help him then great, but I’ll be working hard as well, I’m not just here to hang around, I want to work hard and improve myself as well,” he stressed.
“I think when you work with a group of goalkeepers, you work together and obviously I’ve been through a lot – dealing with the mental side of things as well, which is important.
But hopefully the way I apply myself in training will keep the competition within the goalkeeping ranks very, very high.

The former England international, who was a free agent before joining City, says he is settling into life very well at the Premier League Champions.
“It’s been great; I’ve really enjoyed working with Joe and getting to know everyone. It’s a magnificent set up here and I’m really pleased to be involved in it and play a part in the club’s success, hopefully,” he smiled.
“It all happened very quickly, just a couple of weeks just before I came over here I was asked would I be interested.
“I had a call on the Friday to ask if I could come in and train from the Monday to Wednesday and that was it, I signed on the Thursday!
“It was a quick turnaround, but one that I’m really pleased with.
“There’s a great bunch of lads here, everyone looks out for each other, it’s a really, really welcoming football club.
Everyone who works here, whatever they do, are looking out for you and looking after you, so it’s been very easy for me to settle

The ease with which Richard has taken to life here is in stark contrast to his move to Preston North End earlier this summer.
After signing with the Lillywhites in July, he lasted only one week before leaving the club due to homesickness.
“The whole family’s come up now. It was a very tough decision before I went to Preston as it wasn’t feasible at that stage to bring the family, but with a chance to come to a club like City, I want my family to enjoy the adventure and the excitement that goes around this football club at the moment,” he revealed.
“We’re all up here together and the kids are just settling into schools and stuff like that and we’re all really pleased.”
Of course we couldn’t let Richard go without one final question about his relationship/rivalry with City legend Nicky Weaver!
“I got on very well with Weaves, we shared a room at u21 level and he is definitely a character!” he laughed.
“As much as there was always rivalry within the u21s, we were still good friends, he’s a good guy.
“I think we had some good games when Nicky was at one end and I was at the other!”
