Manuel Pellegrini’s men avoided familiar names Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow, sides they faced in the last two seasons at this stage, but face a challenging trio of clubs nonetheless.
Juventus are up first at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 15 September - the Serie A winners were runners up in last season’s competition.
City played Juve in the 2010/11 Europa League group stage and drew 1-1 at home and away.
The Blues also played the Bianconeri in the 1976 UEFA Cup, winning at home 1-0 but losing 2-0 away.
Monchengladbach are City’s first away opposition on Wednesday 30 September. They finished third in the Bundesliga last season. City faced the German side in the 1979 UEFA Cup and lost 4-2 on aggregate.
Sevilla will be City’s double header in the middle of the group stages - the teams meet in Manchester on Wednesday 21 October and in Spain on 3 November.
Brian Marwood, Managing Director for City Football Services, was present at the draw in Monaco and said: “It’s a little bit different to previous years as we’ve tended to get Bayern Munich or Barcelona so it’s new territory for us. “We’ve played Juventus before in 2010 but Sevilla is a new one for us, so we’re excited and we’re really looking forward to it. dfxdd“
We’re delighted that this is our fifth consecutive year in the Champions League. You’re always going to draw tough teams, this is a hard tournament but we’re looking forward to it - we know we’ve got a lot of tough games ahead of us.
“The expectations are always there for us these days – you have to enjoy that and to embrace it. There’s a hunger and desire from all of the group to be successful.”
On the two occasions Manuel Pellegrini’s men have progressed to the knock-out stage of the Champions League, they have been defeated over two legs by Barcelona. As a result, the Blues have never bettered a Round of 16 finish but will hope to do so this time around.
City’s U19s, who reached the quarter-finals last year before losing to Roma, shadow the first team’s group games in the UEFA Youth League.
