Team News

City: Pep Guardiola has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the game on the South coast.

Bernardo Silva made his first appearance for the Club against West Ham in Iceland but is lacking match fitness, as is Claudio Bravo, Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan - who haven’t featured in pre-season

Brighton: Anthony Knockaert recovered from an ankle injury in time to be named on the bench for their final pre-season friendly against Atletico Madrid so could play a part on Saturday.

Sam Baldock (calf) and Glenn Murray (suspension) missed the friendly but the latter will be back for the Premier League opener.

Last Time

It’s almost nine years since the last meeting between the two sides when the Blues visited Brighton for a League Cup Second Round tie in September 2008.

Vincent Kompany was amongst the starting XI for the clash at the Withdean Stadium as Gelson Fernandes opened the scoring in the 64th minute.

Brighton’s Glenn Murray sent the game into extra-time with an 89th minute equaliser before Joe Anyinsah gave the home side the lead five minutes after the restart.

Stephen Ireland’s 108th minute strike ensured the tie would be settled on penalties with the home side progressing into the Third Round after winning 5-3 on spot kicks.
