Pep’s press conference

Asked whether he feels fatigue may creep in, Guardiola replied: “I don’t think so.

“Maybe it will happen but we have a good enough squad.

“Gabriel Jesus didn’t play (against Bournemouth) – he had 120 minutes at Leicester. He is the best fighter at high pressing I have ever seen. He helped us a lot with his high intensity.

“Bernardo Silva played an amazing 30 minutes (against Bournemouth) and Ilkay Gundogan as well. We have Yaya Toure also.

“(At Leicester), Oleks Zinchenko was Man of the Match. (Against Bournemouth), he was not in the squad.

“Kevin De Bruyne had been sick in the two or three days (before Saturday’s game) with vomiting and fever.

“He dropped two or three kilos, the doctor told me. He made the training session on Friday and we decided he would start; then when he was tired, we would change him. He helped us to play for 65/70 minutes.

“We have four days before the Newcastle game, then it’s Watford and Burnley at home.

“Players have played in the past and they will play in the future.

“We have to do what we have done until now, focusing on what we have to do on the pitch – offensively, defensively, individually and as a group.”

Last time

City last faced Newcastle back in April 2016 at St James’ Park, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.
