Team news

City

John Stones missed the Manchester derby due to discomfort in his adductor muscle but could feature on Tuesday, while it remains to be seen whether Benjamin Mendy (knee) is at a level that allows him to be available for selection.

Danilo, Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Nicolas Otamendi are all one booking away from a Champions League suspension.

Liverpool

Alberto Moreno missed out on the Merseyside derby after picking up a thigh problem in the warm-up at Goodison Park on Saturday, while Andy Robertson also took a seat on the sidelines over the weekend due to a calf complaint.

Adam Lallana (hamstring), Joel Matip (thigh), Joe Gomez (ankle) and Emre Can (back) all look unlikely to feature in our Champions League meeting at the Etihad.

Jurgen Klopp stated that Mohamed Salah could be fit to feature on Tuesday night, but a decision will be made tomorrow.

Jordan Henderson is suspended, while Moreno is one yellow card away from a UEFA suspension.

A word from the opposition

“When we lost here 5-0 at beginning of the season everyone saw the quality of city, it was clear,” Klopp stated in his pre-match press conference. “And everyone knows about Pep – he’s the best coach in the world.

“I knew before that they can concede goals and that they can lose, but its tough for all teams in the league.

“Tomorrow presents the chance to go to next round, but I don’t think even Barcelona think they are through – there is always a chance to strike back.

“City have the chance to strike back but so do we and we have the chance to win. Nothing is fixed.”
