Team news
City
Bernardo Silva (muscle), Gabriel Jesus (groin) and Pep Guardiola explained in his press conference.
Kevin De Bruyne is ruled out with ligament damage which he sustained in the Carabao Cup win over Fulham, while Benjamin Mendy (knee) also faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is a long-term absentee, having sustained an Achilles tendon injury. The Chilean ‘keeper underwent scans, which confirmed a rupture in the tendon of his left foot.
Lyon
Nabil Fekir is a doubt for the French outfit, having suffered a groin injury in last Friday’s victory over St Etienne.
The last time...
The two sides last met on Matchday One, with Lyon triumphing 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir were on target for the visitors, before Bernardo Silva halved the deficit for the Blues.
Group F form/permutations
City have won all three games since the defeat to Lyon and sit three points clear of the French outfit in the standings, with Hoffenheim on three, one more than Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Blues – who have reached the round of 16 for the last five seasons – will be through with a draw and will clinch first place with a win.
Lyon will be through with a win and a draw will be enough if Hoffenheim’s game against Shakhtar is also drawn, due to their better head-to-head record against the German club.
Pep Guardiola preview
“We lost the first game against a tough team but we have the chance to qualify with a game left.
“We have come here to do our jobs. We’ve been playing at a high level and we are going to do that here.
“Never have I won three games away in a row in the Champions League. We will try to make a good performance.”
Bruno Genesio preview
“We must play the game with complete focus. This is a team that is superior to us on paper. We’ll have to be at 150 per cent to win.
“Manchester City are one of the favourites to win the Champions League. They are one of the best European teams, but we will play with ambition – it’s the only way to trouble them again. We have to believe in ourselves.”

Stats
-
City responded to the Lyon reverse with a 2-1 win at Hoffenheim before Shakhtar were beaten 3-0 away and 6-0 at home – the latter result the Manchester club’s biggest win in UEFA club competition.
- The Blues have won three of their last five European away games, losing the other two.
- After the City win, Lyon recovered from 0-2 down at home to Shakhtar on matchday two to salvage a point. They then drew 3-3 at Hoffenheim before another draw (2-2) at home, the German club scoring an added-time equaliser in both games.
- Those results make it four wins – and only one defeat – in the last eight European matches for Bruno Génésio’s side, who have scored two or more goals in each of their last five European fixtures
