Team news

City

Ilkay Gundogan (hamstring) remains doubtful. The Germany midfielder limped off against Hoffenheim in our 2-1 Champions League victory. Danilo (ankle) is also likely to be absent, having sustained a knock on international duty.

However, Guardiola revealed that Fabian Delph is available for selection.

Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is a long-term absentee, having sustained an Achilles tendon injury. The Chilean ‘keeper underwent scans, which confirmed a rupture in the tendon of his left foot.

Tottenham

Jan Vertonghen (hamstring) and Vincent Janssen (foot) are sidelined until December, while Victor Wanyama (hamstring), Danny Rose (groin) and Dele Alli (hamstring) face late fitness tests.

The last time...

The two sides last met in April, as City produced another scintillating display to triumph 3-1 at Wembley.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring before Ilkay Gundogan doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

Christian Eriksen halved the deficit before the break but Raheem Sterling restored the Blues’ two-goal advantage to seal the win.

Pep Guardiola preview

“When we see game at Inter in Champions League, they were not worse than opponent. I say they were better. But the competition is special. The numbers are the numbers. It’s one of the teams I like the most to watch, I learn when I see them. They have a young team, good keeper, striker, everything to be there.

“They play with five at back sometimes, sometimes diamond, sometimes 4-2-3-1. They can use it and change again. When you know a team does the same thing, it’s easier to control it. They sometimes play Son with Dele Ali, they can change it. You have to be prepared for that. Tactically they are very well prepared.

“There is Two points difference for five/six teams. It’s strong. You see the line-up for Tottenham. Tottenham are always there. They can invest because they build an incredible stadium but it’s a top side. Last season we did really well in both games but they are a top team.”

Mauricio Pochettino preview

“The matches have been defined by very small details that have changed everything. We’ve not had much luck in the Champions League and I’m not trying to find excuses.

“We also did not manage to close down matches as we should have done in Milan and Eindhoven. And when you do things like that it becomes more difficult.

“The draw at PSV is not at all what we were expecting, but we have left that behind us. It is all about Manchester City now and we are all focused on them.

“Obviously if we win we’re going to be a point above City and that would be ideal. They are a great team but this is a huge opportunity to get to the top, where we want to be.”
