Benjamin Mendy has also been ruled out, having missed City’s home matches with Fulham and Lyon with a foot problem.

Danilo continues his build up to match fitness after two months out with injury.

Harry Arter, Josh Murphy, Aron Gunnarsson are all slight doubts but all three could be fit for the visit of the champions.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is out for several months with a PCL tear.

Head-to-head

With 21 wins to City, nine to Cardiff and 20 draws, this has been a closely-fought fixture over the years.

City have won the last two meetings and victory over the Bluebirds this weekend would be the first time the Blues have recorded three wins in a row against Cardiff.

Last meeting...

In a feisty and, at times bruising encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium, City emerged 2-0 winners over the Bluebirds in the FA Cup 4th round tie played last January.

Last time out...

City slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in the Champions League in midweek. Cardiff went down 4-1 at Chelsea last weekend.

Pep Guardiola preview

“The Premier League is physical.

“I realised how physical it is - it’s the way Cardiff like to play - and we have to adapt, which is always a risk.”

Neil Warnock preview

“The level they play at is quite fantastic.

“They’re all top internationals and I don’t know how many of their players cost more than our entire squad, but we’ve earned the right to play them.

“I think they’re a unique team. This is a team with everything in their locker - it’s a real test for anyone.”

Stats

This will be the third meeting between Cardiff and Man City in the Premier League, with the previous two encounters providing 11 goals: Cardiff winning 3-2 at home and losing 4-2 at the Etihad in 2013/14.

City are unbeaten in their last 21 Premier League matches against promoted sides since a 0-1 defeat at Burnley in March 2015.

Visiting striker Sergio Aguero has scored 12 and assisted two more in his last 12 league fixtures against newly-promoted sides. However, he has failed to score in both meetings against such sides this season against Wolves and Fulham.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock has lost all six of his league encounters with reigning top-flight champions, by an aggregate score of 0-13.
