Last Time Out

City kicked off the new campaign in similar fashion to how they finished the last one - by picking up some silverware at Wembley!

Liverpool provided a stern test in the Community Shield final, but Raheem Sterling squeezed an effort underneath Allison to open the scoring just before the 15-minute mark.

Centre-back Joel Matip’s 77th minute equaliser with a close-range header proved to be the only goal of an exciting second half which saw Sterling, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all strike the woodwork.

With the game level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Claudio Bravo proved to be the penalty hero when he denied Georginio Wijnaldum, allowing Gabriel Jesus to slot home the decisive spot kick and bring the Community Shield back to the Etihad.

A second half Sergio Aguero penalty was enough to earn City a 1-0 win back in February, three days after our Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men had frustrated the Blues for the opening hour, but the breakthrough came when Bernardo Silva was brought down by Felipe Anderson in the box.

Aguero made no mistake from the spot to grab his 25th goal of the season and move us to within a single point of league leaders Liverpool.
