Team news

City

Pep Guardiola revealed Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte will not be in contention before City’s FA Cup trip to Swansea.

The pair were substituted in Sunday’s Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea through abductor and hamstring injuries and Guardiola admitted he does not expect the duo to return before the visit to the Liberty Stadium in mid-March.

Gabriel Jesus and John Stones (groin) are also likely to miss Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against West Ham, but there was better news for Benjamin Mendy, who could return to face the Hammers.

West Ham

Manuel Lanzini continues his return from injury, while former City midfielder Samir Nasri has also recovered from a calf injury and is available to face the club with whom he won the Premier League title under Manuel Pellegrini in 2013/14.

Marko Arnautovic, Chicharito and Michail Antonio are also fit, but Fabian Balbuena and Winston Reid will not be available for Wednesday’s fixture.

Last time

The pair last met in November, as City ran out 4-0 victors at the London Stadium, with David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane (2) on the scoresheet.

The Hammers’ last visit to the Etihad Stadium saw the Blues triumph 2-1, as goals from Nicolas Otamendi and Silva turned the game on its head, following Angelo Ogbonna’s opener.

Pep Guardiola preview

“Manuel did an incredible job [at City],” he continued. “He was outstanding. He has a good team and has a lot of respect.

“We will fight until the end for the title,” he stated. “We have to run tomorrow and beat them; then win again.

“On Wednesday, we have another test.”

Manuel Pellegrini preview

“Manchester City played extra-time and penalties against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday but I don’t think they will be weaker than normal on Wednesday.

“Playing 120 minutes of course is a lot, a long game, but they have a strong squad, they can make the changes that they want and continue to have the best squad in the Premier League.

“When I think back to my time at Manchester City, I remember three beautiful years, especially when we won the Premier League we had a very successful season. Not only because we won that but it was the team that scored the most goals in history.”
