Team news

City

De Bruyne returned to the City squad after recovering from a recent muscle problem.

Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo are long-term absentees.

Rotherham

Billy Jones is back from suspension but is a doubt after an injury in training on Friday.

Clark Robertson and Zak Vyner could return from injury, but Richie Towell is suspended.

Last time

City last played Rotherham at senior level in March 2002, when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Millmoor.

Alan Lee gave the home side the lead, only for Ali Benarbia to equalise on the hour mark as Kevin Keegan’s City coasted towards promotion back to the top flight.

Almost 36 years earlier, a team managed by Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison clinched the old Second Division championship with a 1-0 at the same venue, a result that sparked a hugely successful period for the Club.

Pep’s preview

“This month is really tough – I would like two months holiday right now - but is what it is,” said the Blues boss.

“If you want to become a top, top club you can’t deny any game and we can’t drop any competition

“We are doing to play the FA Cup game (against Rotherham) like a final and that’s going to happen.

“If we win, we go through, if we lose we are out of the second most important competition in England.

“There are a lot of games, but December and January are so tough for everybody! So tough, but we aren’t special in that regard.”
