Team News

City: Pep Guardiola says Monday’s clash with Leicester will come too soon for Kevin De Bruyne’s comeback from injury. The Blues boss is also unsure if Fernandinho will be back to full fitness before the Foxes visit the Etihad, but he did say that both he and De Bruyne ‘are coming back soon’.

Leicester: Daniel Amartey (ankle) is the only player missing for the Foxes.

Last Time Out

The two sides last met on Boxing Day 2018 at the King Power Stadium with Leicester running out 2-1 winners.

Bernardo Silva had opened the scoring for the Champions on the quarter-hour before Marc Albrighton levelled just five minutes later. Ricardo Pereira then netted the winner with nine minutes of normal time remaining.

The Foxes’ last visit to the Etihad Stadium saw Pep Guardiola’s men triumph 5-1 with Sergio Aguero bagging four, after Raheem Sterling’s early opener.

Pep Guardiola preview:

“They have quality and all we can do is focus on that.

“I expect them to high press and play on the counter-attack – they’re going to attack.

“I think it helps that Leicester play on the counter-attack. Now, with Brendan Rodgers, they control parts of the game so I think he has showed his quality as a manager.

“In two months, everyone has played how he wants them to play – the movement and positioning is well-coordinated. I was really impressed with how the players play.

Brendan Rodgers preview:

“We expect that it’ll be tough game for us, but we have a game and a model of work that we believe can beat any team. You know that you’re going to have to defend very, very well. You have to be strong, you have to be aggressive, you have to be hard to beat, you have to be compact.

“From that base we know that we have speed in the team. We’ve got players that are incisive, they can make the last pass, they’ve got speed at the top of the field. The important thing is to ensure that you defend well, you’re aggressive, and we know we can do that. And then it’s a case of then showing our qualities when we have the ball.”
